Discover the Power of Prayer

Our Gateway to God's Presence

Prayer is our way to connect with God and experience His presence. It's a vital practice that deepens our faith and strengthens our relationship with Him. Through prayer, we express adoration, confess our sins, give thanks, and present our needs.

What is Prayer?

Prayer is communication with God.

We do this by praising Him, confessing our sin before Him, thanking Him and bringing our request, needs and desires to Him. When we pray, we engage in loving fellowship with God, our creator. He invites us to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ who shed his blood on the cross for our sins. We are commanded to pray always.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)

Why Should We Pray?

  • Through prayer, we can seek God's wisdom and direction for our lives.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” - Philippians 4:6 (ESV)

  • Jesus demonstrated the importance of prayer by prioritizing it in His daily life, often retreating to quiet places to pray.

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.” - Mark 1:35 (ESV)

  • Prayer strengthens us to resist the temptations we face in our daily lives.

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” - Matthew 26:41 (ESV)

  • Prayer brings healing and reveals the power of God at work within us and through us.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” - James 5:16 (ESV)

  • Receive and Extend Forgiveness: Through prayer, we receive God's forgiveness and are empowered to forgive others as well.

“And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.” - Luke 11:4 (NLT)

How to Pray

ACTS is a simple, but powerful way to pray.

The model helps us remember the steps of prayer, and act as a guide to open our conversation with God. That’s what prayer is, talking with God. Whether you’re new to prayer or seasoned in prayer this method will guide you in your prayer time.

  • Begin your prayer in adoration and praise of God. Let yourself be filled with wonder at who God is and how He desires to be with you, always. Know that He is not just God, but He is your God. He sent His Son to die for you. Thank Him for the price he paid to bring you into right relationship with God the Father.

“Yours is the mighty power and glory and victory and majesty. Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything.” - 1 Chronicles 29:11 (TLB)

  • Take time to confess your sins before God. Confess things you have done and for any struggles you may have had in your thoughts or life. Jesus' blood washes away our sins and makes us clean in the sight of God the Father.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:9 (ESV)

  • Thank Him for everything. God loves a grateful heart. Have an attitude of gratitude and give thanks for everything He has blessed you with.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” - Psalm 100:4 (NIV)

  • Present your needs and desires to God, trusting that He hears and cares for you. God knows what we need even before we ask.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.” - 1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)

Making prayer a regular part of your life requires intentionality and commitment.

How to Make Prayer a Habit

Here are some tips to help you develop a habit of prayer:

Set a Specific Time

Choose a time of day when you are alert and can focus. Whether it's early in the morning, in the afternoon, or in the evening, find a time that works best for you.

Prepare Your Heart

Gather any materials you like to use, such as a Bible, journal, or prayer guide, and keep them in your designated prayer spot.

Find a Quiet Place

Select a place free from distractions where you can concentrate on your conversation with God.

Be Consistent

Make it a priority to spend time with God daily, even if it's just for a few minutes.

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:6 (NIV)
